Play Therapy

Play is a children’s natural medium of communication. Children can use play to help understand their muddled feelings and worries. Play therapy provides a safe therapeutic space where children can express and explore their feelings at their own pace with a trained therapist. Play therapy enables children to communicate, gain better control of their behavior, make choices for themselves, reduce anxieties, develop more fulfilling relationships and improve their self esteem.

Our Creative Rumpus program is led by Cheryl Hastings, a fully accredited play therapist (PTUK/PTI) who received her Masters Degree of Practise-based Play Therapy from Christ Church University (UK).  Cheryl has extensive experience working with children who present emotional and behavioural difficulties and uses a non-directive child-lead process, to empower each child to understand and process their feelings and past experiences.  Play therapy services are available in schools, by referral from parents, carers or teachers and by social service agency referral.  Bursary support is available.
